Floor Barre® classes | ‘Mind Your Posture’ workshops

Rommett Floor Barre®

The Rommett Floor-Barre work is a training and conditioning method based on traditional ballet technique. You perform the movements lying on the floor in a way that uses gravity to your advantage. It is a great way to strengthen your core, tone and lengthen your muscles, and improve your posture, range of motion, and balance.

Because the work is slow, precise and for the most part, non-weight-bearing, it is a safe way to rehabilitate from injuries. You are welcome to attend, whether or not you have previous dance training.

Floor-Barre was created by former ballerina, Zena Rommett in the 1970’s and continues to be taught in dance schools and fitness centers all over the world. It is practiced by professional dancers, dance students, and non-dancers alike. You will experience a stronger, more fluid and centered way of being in the body. If you are a dancer, this class strengthens and polishes your technique, no matter your dance style or class level.

‘Mind Your Posture’

We spend most of our day sitting, standing, or walking. Posture refers to the way we hold and live in our body/mind during these activities and how we branch out from those baselines into the countless movement possibilities available to us.

This one-day workshop helps you become familiar with your body’s basic structure and learn how the various segments relate to each other and to the whole. You will practice movements that encourage a natural posture, promote muscle balance and conditioning, and over time, replace detrimental neuromuscular patterns with healthier ones.

You will discover ways to optimize your own capacity for freedom of movement, pain reduction, and lightness of being. Since postural work requires attentive present-moment awareness, it is a great way to practice mindfulness.

Dress comfortably and be prepared to explore new movements, to be still, to breathe deeply, and perhaps even to dance a little…
